We believe that Jazz can be the catalyst for positive and permanent change in our community. The nature of Jazz compels us to work in collaboration with our surroundings - to improvise when needs change and new opportunities arise. We are committed to using our assets to benefit individuals and groups in our community.  Each year, we donate several hundred hours of rehearsal and event time for musicians and nonprofits. Jazz informs, influences, and inspires and we seek to do the same in our neighborhood. We leverage our assets to educate youth, foster musicianship and support local nonprofits.

The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra School of Music (NOJOSOM) is a free Saturday and afterschool music education initiative that provides small and large ensemble instruction in Jazz and Classical idioms. In partnership with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), small ensembles come together in a monthly large ensemble rehearsal facilitated by members of NOJO’s Big Band and artist-mentors from the LPO. This large ensemble is called the Music for Life Honors Orchestra and is modeled after programs like Orchkids (Baltimore, MD) and Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program. NOJOSOM also provides summer instruction through a partnership with the SANAA Music Workshop. If you are interested in your child joining NOJOSOM,

The Jazz Market was created by musicians for musicians and we are always looking to support the musician community. Realizing that affordable practice space in New Orleans is hard to come by, the Jazz Market offers free rehearsal space, which includes the use of a piano and drum kit. To reserve space, email

We understand the common constraints of operating a non-profit and we’re proud to offer the Jazz Market to alleviate expensive uninspiring offices and the challenge of raising money.  We look forward to providing free or inexpensive meeting space for small groups in various parts of the Jazz Market. We also offer non-profit happy hours, which allows a group to invite their community to have a social mixer at the Bolden Bar. The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is happy to donate 10% of bar proceeds back to the non-profit as unrestricted funds. Email to schedule!
