New Orleans Non-Profits Feel the Love NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA (September 14, 2009) – Over 900 New Orleanians and jazz enthusiasts recently packed into Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. The highly successful benefit concert series entitled “The Love Sessions” was billed as Six Nights of Music and Six Nights of Giving. In an effort to support his hometown, Grammy nominee and Billboard Award winner Irvin Mayfield presented a weeklong “love offering” of concerts in late August with all proceeds dedicated to six non-profit organizations that support the New Orleans community. Approximately 150 guests per night attended each concert as Mayfield presented the music of Los Hombres Calientes. “The Love Sessions were an important demonstration of how the music of jazz can be a vessel for supporting the lives of our citizens. With the help of the wonderful audiences that supported the Playhouse for those six nights, we were able to raise over $40,000 for key organizations that are strengthening our people in many ways,” explains Irvin Mayfield. On Thursday September 17 from 4:00 p.m.
to 5:00 p.m., Alfred L. Groos, Vice
President and General Manager of the Royal Sonesta Hotel and jazz trumpeter, Irvin
Mayfield will present checks to all six non-profit organizations
that benefited from “Love Sessions.” The beneficiaries include Unity
of Greater New Orleans, New Orleans Police & Justice
Foundation, Boys Town Louisiana, New Orleans Public Library, the New Orleans
Jazz Orchestra, and LSU Health Science Center Department
of Psychiatry. Interviews and photo opportunities
can be arranged upon request. |
