Mayfield is Chairman of the New Orleans Public Library.
Under his leadership as chairman, the NOPL has re-imagined itself with
an ambitious new master plan, and made significant progress toward its
post-Katrina recovery. He is also Vice-Chairman of the New Orleans Public
Library Foundation, the fundraising arm of the New Orleans Public Library
system.
Mayfield is a commissioner on the New Orleans Redevelopment
Authority, chairman of the Redevelopment Authority’s marketing committee,
and a member of the executive committee. NORA has been charged with the
daunting task of redeveloping New Orleans by moving blighted and neglected
properties back into commerce thus renewing neighborhoods and businesses
and communities. LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY PSYCHIATRIC BOARD Mayfield is a member of the Louisiana State University
Psychiatric Board. Since Hurricane Katrina and Gustav, the Psychiatric
Department of LSU has played key roles in the State's Crisis Response
Program in providing mental health services, throughout metropolitan
New Orleans including services for first responders and their families,
in meeting the mental health needs of returning and displaced children
and their families, and in rebuilding communities' mental health infrastructure.
Mayfield is a member of the New Orleans Police and Justice
Foundation. The New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation is a nonprofit
organization dedicated to supporting the people and processes of the
criminal justice system for the city of New Orleans.
Mayfield is Vice-Chairman of the First Responders’ Fund,
a non-profit organization that was started with the objective of providing
New Orleans’ police, firemen and EMTs with resources to encourage recruitment
and retention. The fund is responsible for inaugurating New Orleans’
first official Halloween parade, with proceeds going to benefit the city’s
finest.
Mayfield is a board member and official spokesman for Unity of Greater New Orleans, an organization that seeks to end homelessness in the city of New Orleans. |
